On October 15, 2026, Google released a new Crisis Resilience white paper outlining how its smartphone networks and artificial intelligence tools help predict and respond to natural disasters.

Earthquake and Flood Warnings

According to Google, its Android Earthquake Alerts System turns smartphones into a global network capable of warning people before shaking arrives. The company stated that the system is currently expanding to more countries and regions.

Google reported that its flood forecasting technology provides up to seven days of notice for riverine floods for more than two billion people across 150 countries. The technology also supplies up to 24 hours of notice for urban flash floods.

Cyclones and Wildfire Tracking

Google stated that its WeatherNext model can predict cyclones up to 15 days out. In addition, near-real-time fire boundary maps are currently live in 34 countries.

The company is also developing FireSat, a global satellite constellation designed to detect and track fires as small as a classroom within 20 minutes once completed.

Crisis Information Reach

Google noted that in 2025 alone, it helped connect people with crisis information more than 10 million times per day on average. These capabilities and ongoing community collaborations are detailed in Google's new Crisis Resilience white paper.
