At the Broadband Development Congress during Network X 2026 in Vienna on October 16, 2026, Huawei Optical Business Product Line President Bob Chen presented a strategy for transforming network value in the AI era. According to Huawei, the approach centers on three core principles.

Three 'R' Strategy for AI Networks

According to Huawei, the rapid development of artificial intelligence requires a fundamental shift in network construction, business models, and operations. Bob Chen emphasized three core concepts, known as the three Rs: rebuilding network architecture, reshaping business models, and redefining network operation and maintenance.

The company noted that large AI models now contain nearly 10 trillion parameters, with token consumption increasing significantly over the past year, driving dramatic changes in connection requirements.

Architecture and Business Transformation

Huawei stated that network architecture must transition from administrative region-based designs to structures focused on AI data centers (AIDC), enabling deterministic latencies between 1 and 20 milliseconds. In the business segment, operators can expand private lines beyond simple bandwidth to include metrics like latency and reliability, alongside integrated compute-network services.

For home broadband, the strategy proposes expanding from basic connections to whole-home Wi-Fi using FTTR or Wi-Fi Mesh, alongside AI-powered smart home applications and domestic AI agents.

Operation and Maintenance Enhancements

The company also detailed improvements in network operations through artificial intelligence, noting that AI-driven Wi-Fi tuning can increase speeds by approximately 20% in interfering environments by adjusting parameters in real time.

Additionally, intelligent traffic analysis can reduce overall device power consumption by more than 20% through dynamic power management for chassis and line cards.
