Macau telecommunications operator CTM announced details of its secure target network at Network X 2026 in Vienna, highlighting a collaboration with Huawei to modernize network security for the artificial intelligence era.
AI integration and traffic management
CTM stated that AI creates strict demands for high reliability and low latency across telecom infrastructure. To address this, the company is integrating AGW and AI capabilities into its broadband network gateway (BNG), allowing dynamic traffic scheduling and intelligent service recognition to lower international bandwidth costs and improve routing.
Moving toward AGW 2.0, CTM said it will combine telemetry with AI-driven analytics to shift operations from manual adjustments to automated network optimization. The operator said this transition aims to support predictable, tailored services for government and enterprise customers.
Built-in defenses and quantum preparation
CTM argued that future network defense must move beyond perimeter firewalls to become an inherent capability within network devices. The operator outlined an approach focusing on built-in device security with AI behavioral analysis, alongside bundled security-as-a-service offerings that include anti-phishing, DDoS defense, and intrusion prevention systems.
To mitigate future risks posed by quantum computing to conventional cryptography, CTM and Huawei have initiated a joint innovation effort. The companies are developing a target IP architecture incorporating quantum key distribution (QKD) communications, which CTM said will allow operators to validate quantum-safe technology and lower operations and maintenance costs.
