Cohere announced on October 29, 2026, the initial close of its Series E financing round targeting up to CAD $7 billion. The Toronto-headquartered company stated the target would represent a CAD $35.7 billion valuation.
Funding terms and investors
Cohere described the transaction as the largest private capital raise in Canadian history. Commitments to date are led by the companies of Schwarz Group.
New institutional and strategic investors include Bell Ventures, Bullhound Capital, and the Government of Canada. Returning investors include Inovia Capital, NVIDIA, and Prosperity7 Ventures.
Christian Müller, chief executive officer of Schwarz Digits, said the investment follows the strategic business combination of Cohere and Aleph Alpha, with the goal of anchoring Cohere's capabilities into the STACKIT cloud infrastructure.
Growth and infrastructure plans
Cohere reported ending Q3 2026 with 165% year-over-year annual recurring revenue growth. Over the past year, the company increased its customer base by 20x to 300 customers, including Bell Canada, Fujitsu, RBC, and TD Bank.
Chief Financial Officer Francois Chadwick said the capital will be used to advance model and product roadmaps, create vertical solutions for regulated industries, invest in long-term compute infrastructure, and scale operations across North America, EMEA, and APAC.
In 2026, Cohere launched its North 2 platform upgrade along with models including Command A+, Cohere Transcribe, Parse 5, Embed 5, Rerank 5, North Mini Code, and North Small Translate.
Government and international backing
Cohere stated that the Government of Canada made an equity investment in the round. Cohere agreed to commitments supporting Canada's economic vision and domestic AI ecosystem.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the investment supports the country's ability to build, adopt, and govern AI on its own terms, giving businesses and governments control over where sensitive data is stored, used, and accessed.
Karsten Wildberger, Germany's Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization, congratulated Cohere and said the milestone demonstrates strong market confidence in sovereign AI and underscores German-Canadian cooperation.
