The Electronic Frontier Foundation reported that Apple has introduced a new setting to exclude apps from Siri AI in iOS 27.2. The update addresses privacy concerns regarding how AI features interact with secure messaging apps.
New Siri AI Controls in iOS 27.2
According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Apple's iOS 27.2 update includes a new setting to exclude applications from Siri AI. The organization stated the feature fulfills one of its requests from the Encrypt It Already campaign.
The organization previously noted that initial controls for Siri AI app access were confusing. The updated settings provide a clearer way to prevent AI tools from accessing sensitive app content, though it comes at the cost of losing certain features.
Android and Gemini Controls
The Electronic Frontier Foundation also examined privacy controls on Android devices for Google's Gemini. Users can manage connected apps through the Gemini app settings, though the organization noted that controls could be more straightforward.
The organization stated that while Gemini requires opt-in for certain app integrations, features like screen context and device assistance can still access notifications and app content depending on user settings.
