Amazon Web Services announced on October 15, 2026, that Amazon CloudFront now supports end-to-end IPv6 delivery to origins inside an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). The update introduces dual-stack VPC origins for cloud customers.
What Changed
Amazon Web Services stated that Amazon CloudFront now supports end-to-end IPv6 delivery to origins inside an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) through new dual-stack VPC origins. Customers can keep Application Load Balancers (ALB), Network Load Balancers (NLB), and EC2 instances in private subnets that only their CloudFront distributions can reach.
Previously, CloudFront supported dual-stack configurations for public origins but connected to VPC origins over IPv4 only. According to the company, customers previously faced a tradeoff between moving origins to public subnets for IPv6 or keeping them private on IPv4.
Availability and Cost
Dual-stack VPC origins are available in all AWS Commercial Regions where VPC origins are supported, according to the company. Amazon Web Services stated there is no additional cost for using the feature.
