Defense technology startup Warhound emerged from stealth on October 23, 2026, with a $200 million seed round to rebuild America's military working dog supply. Conceived by entrepreneurs Ben Lamm and Palmer Luckey, the company combines biotechnology from Colossal Biosciences with defense technology from Anduril.

Addressing Foreign Supply Dependency

According to Warhound, more than 80% of U.S. military working dogs are currently acquired from Europe, creating a critical interdependency on foreign nations. Less than half of the dogs procured through the current three-year acquisition and training pipeline are ultimately deemed fit for service.

Led by CEO David Spirk, Warhound aims to reduce this dependence by producing healthier working dogs domestically. The company combines Colossal's enhanced genetics platform with cloning, training, and animal care to increase training success rates.

Technology and Backing

Through a partnership, all dogs will be equipped with Anduril's advanced cybernetic augments, software, and battlefield situational awareness tools to provide greater awareness and protection in the field.

The company operates under the guidance of the American Humane Society, which certifies its training programs and supports reunification and adoption protocols. The $200 million seed round was backed by investors including In-Q-Tel, Sequoia Capital, ARK Invest, and Franklin Templeton.
