On October 13, 2026, Google Cloud Director of Developer Relations Karl Weinmeister announced the Agent Development Kit (ADK), providing native support for Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin.
Shared Foundation and Protocols
Google Cloud stated that all five language versions of the Agent Development Kit share a unified architecture with interoperability through open protocols. Each version is built from the ground up for its own runtime and type system.
Every language version includes a Model Context Protocol client, allowing a custom tool exposed as an MCP server to be called from any of them immediately. Additionally, ADK supports the Agent2Agent protocol, enabling agents to communicate with remote agents over HTTP.
Language Features and Runtimes
Python acts as the reference implementation, providing a wide set of Google Cloud integrations and model adapters, plus evaluation tooling to score agent trajectories against golden datasets in continuous integration.
Go targets production backend engineering on Cloud Run and Google Kubernetes Engine, packaging onto a roughly 2 MiB Google distroless static base image with the ADK 2.0 Graph Workflow runtime. TypeScript pairs with Zod for static type inference and supports running agents in a browser tab using WebMCP and Chrome's on-device Prompt API.
Java integrates with Maven, Gradle, and Spring Boot, utilizing RxJava for reactive event streaming. Kotlin uses Kotlin Symbol Processing to emit tool schemas directly into bytecode with zero runtime reflection, enabling local execution on Android.
Project Setup and Deployment
Developers can initialize their environments by running a setup command to check Google Cloud authentication, install the CLI, and configure first-party ADK skills in coding agents like Antigravity, Claude Code, or Codex.
The CLI scaffold command generates working projects equipped with Agent2Agent endpoints and deployment configurations tailored for Cloud Run, Gemini Enterprise Agent Runtime, or Google Kubernetes Engine.
Key facts and where they come from
- Google's ADK supports Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin.
Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK) removes that trade-off with coverage for Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin.
- ADK includes a Model Context Protocol client in every language.
ADK includes a Model Context Protocol client in every language, so a custom tool exposed as an MCP server can be called from any of them immediately.
- ADK supports the Agent2Agent protocol for multi-agent communication over HTTP.
For multi-agent systems, ADK supports the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, allowing an agent to communicate with a remote agent over HTTP.
