Google Cloud announced the new Gemini agent on October 8, 2026, bringing advanced agentic capabilities and cross-platform integrations to small and midsize businesses.
What the Gemini Agent Does
According to Google Cloud, the new Gemini agent functions as a personal assistant and team member that connects to existing systems and work history from a single prompt box. The tool can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create images and media, and write and run code.
Sharon Prosser, VP of SMB and Scaled at Google Cloud, stated that Gemini can act as a flexible team member for specific roles such as a project manager, bookkeeper, inventory manager, or marketing consultant.
Integrations and Model Choice
Google Cloud stated that Gemini connects to popular tools like Asana, Box, GitHub, Salesforce, Slack, and Shopify to utilize business data and context. The agent provides model choice by orchestrating across the Gemini family of models and Claude models, with plans to support other private and open models in the future.
Google Cloud also built in cost controls, including multi-model orchestration, smart routing to run workloads on the lowest cost model, and real-time project-level spend caps in the Cloud Billing Console.
Availability and Training
Gemini is currently in early access with SMB customers and will be available to all customers soon. To help teams utilize the technology, Google Cloud offers learning programs through the Google Skills platform.
