The U.S. Department of Energy announced 12 Phase II Genesis Mission project awards totaling $159 million on October 8, 2026, to advance Super Intelligence for scientific research. President Trump launched the initiative in November 2025.
Expanding Super Intelligence for Science
The U.S. Department of Energy announced the funding to build on the Genesis Mission portfolio, which was first announced in July. The new selections bring the total number of Phase II projects to 14, alongside six new Phase I awards issued by the agency.
"These projects represent a critical step in turning the promise of Super Intelligence for science into transformative scientific capability," said DOE Under Secretary for Science Dr. Darío Gil. He stated that the initiative brings together National Laboratories, universities, and industry partners to accelerate discovery.
Selected Research Projects
The 12 newly awarded projects cover fields including fusion energy, quantum computing, and bioeconomy research through DOE's Office of Science. Led by institutions such as Commonwealth Fusion Systems, MIT, and Harvard University, the projects apply advanced artificial intelligence to complex scientific challenges.
Selected initiatives include building an AI-enabled digital twin platform for fusion, expanding the RNA structure database for training Super Intelligence models, and designing rugged microchips for extreme environments. Other projects target quantum computing error correction and automated particle accelerator operations.
