Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation announced the upcoming release of the IMX742 CMOS image sensor for single-use medical endoscopes. Sample shipments are scheduled for November 2026.
Technical Specifications
Sony stated that the IMX742 features approximately 0,51 effective megapixels and digital output in a compact 1 mm square chip size. The sensor miniaturizes peripheral circuits, including the A/D converter, to maintain pixel area while offering high resolution.
The sensor supports frame rates of 30 fps and 60 fps with progressive shutter and global reset modes. It includes a Bayer filter and operates on power supplies of 2.7 V, 1.2 V, and -1.2 V.
Transmission and Availability
According to Sony, the sensor utilizes proprietary bidirectional communication technology to transmit control and video signals over the same cable, limiting the sensor to six terminals. This digital signal processing enables stable video transmission through a 5-meter cable.
Sony stated that sample shipments for the IMX742 are planned for November 2026. The company noted that the product is supplied as a component for integration into devices such as medical equipment.
