Readers can learn how to identify, find, and remove unwanted trackers using official instructions provided by Google. These steps help you respond to unknown tracker alerts and run manual scans.

What it does

Unknown tracker alerts help you identify, find, and remove trackers that have been placed near you or in your belongings without your knowledge or consent. The feature currently works with Find Hub network compatible tags, headphones, and Apple AirTags.

Before you start

This feature requires a device running Android 6 and up. Turning on location settings ensures automated alerts, though manual scans can be performed depending on your Android version.

Steps

Step 1: Tap the tracker notification on your device to open a map and view where the tracker has been detected traveling with you.

Step 2: Tap Play sound to cause the tracker to make a sound, which helps you locate it without notifying the owner.

Step 3: Tap Next steps after finding the tracker to see available actions, such as saving its information or turning off the device.

Step 4: Run a manual scan by opening your device’s Settings app, tapping Safety & Emergency, selecting Unknown tracker alerts, and tapping Scan now.

  • Tap Play sound to locate the tracker without notifying the owner.
