A Pew Research Center survey of 5,273 U.S. adults conducted from October 12 to 18, 2026, found that about one-in-ten adults are using AI chatbots to find 2026 election information.
Survey Findings
According to the Pew Research Center survey, about 8% of U.S. adults are using artificial intelligence chatbots for information related to the 2026 elections. Among those utilizing these tools, 76% seek information about where candidates stand on issues, while 71% check the accuracy of things they have heard or read elsewhere.
Additionally, 65% use chatbots to find information regarding candidates' lives and careers. Smaller shares—40% each—turn to chatbots for suggestions on how to vote or to find voter registration details, polling places, and mail-in voting information.
Demographic Differences
The survey notes that chatbot usage for election information largely parallels general chatbot adoption across demographic groups. Adults under age 50 are more likely than those 50 and older to use chatbots generally.
Among adults under 50, 11% report using chatbots for election information. In contrast, only 4% of adults aged 50 and older report doing the same.
