Meta said on September 29, 2026 that Forum, a dedicated app for Facebook Groups, is available to download in the US on iOS and Android, and that it is testing new features including AI-assisted search and a new role for top community contributors.
What Meta announced
Meta described Forum as "a purpose-built app we're exploring for the people who want to go deeper on Facebook Groups." The company said the app is synced with a user's groups on Facebook and brings them together in one place so they can see what is new and join conversations.
According to Meta, testing of Forum began in May, and the company is now introducing additional features. Users log in with a Facebook account to find their groups and discover new ones, the company said.
Meta added that Forum also introduces new tools for admins, and said it would share more about how it is building for admins in the coming weeks.
A new role for top contributors
Meta said it is testing a new role to recognize top community voices in groups, replacing what it called its previous contributor badges and group expert role. The company said the role reflects the quality of a member's contributions and the value they bring to their community.
According to Meta, the role is earned through contributions such as answering questions, sharing firsthand experiences, offering practical tips and recommendations, and starting conversations. It comes with a new badge and new benefits, including posts that publish faster, though Meta said all posts remain subject to its Community Standards.
Admins can grant the role directly, and Meta said it will also nominate members to help admins identify top voices. Members are notified when they receive the role and can remove themselves at any time. The role is starting to test on Forum in the US and on Facebook globally, the company said.
Ask and topic labels
Meta said Forum's Ask feature uses AI to highlight existing group posts and comments, surfacing conversations from groups a user has already joined as well as public groups they have not joined. Users can jump straight from Ask into a group discussion, the company said.
Two additions are being tested, according to Meta: a comparison capability that pulls together recommendations when a user is weighing choices, and an Ask home page that suggests new questions based on recent searches.
Separately, Meta said it is testing topic labels on posts, giving examples such as Solo Travel or Korean Food. Tapping a label surfaces more conversations on the same topic, the company said.
