Google published its monthly artificial intelligence roundup on October 2, 2026, summarizing the announcements it made in September, headlined by a new frontier model called Gemini 4 Argon that the company said is being released first to a limited group of cybersecurity defenders.
A frontier model aimed at cyber defense
Google said Gemini 4 Argon is its newest frontier model, built with advanced reasoning and what the company described as an "industry-leading 1-million-token output limit." According to Google, the model is aimed at heavy workloads including coding, cybersecurity defense, financial research, legal drafting and autonomous cybersecurity patching.
The company said releasing capabilities at that level "requires a phased approach," and that Argon is currently rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through what it calls the Fairwind Program. Google said it is gathering feedback from early testers to iterate on guardrails before expanding availability to developers, enterprises and consumers.
September also brought Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, which Google said delivers autonomous vulnerability discovery and automated code patching to trusted organizations through the same Fairwind Program. Google said 3.8 Flash matches the speed and cost of 3.7 Flash while improving long-horizon software engineering and agentic workflows.
Voice, music and app integrations
Google said it launched two audio models, Gemini 3.8 Live for everyday conversation and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, which it described as the top-rated speech-to-speech model for multi-step reasoning. Both are available to developers in Google AI Studio and the Gemini API, and across Search Live, Gemini Live and Google Workspace, including Gmail, Docs and Keep, the company said.
Two text-to-speech models, Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS, are rolling out across products including Gemini Notebook and Google Vids, according to Google. The company also said Lyria 3.5, its music generation model, is available globally in Gemini as well as Google AI Studio, Google Flow Music and Google Vids.
Google said it added Connected Apps to the Gemini app, listing Airtable, Linear, monday.com, PandaDoc, Adobe, Picsart, Squarespace, Webflow, Peloton, SeatGeek and Experian. It also said Google Labs is expanding its CC agent into a group agent with its own email address, now rolling out as an experimental preview.
Science, climate and space projects
Google said it introduced AlphaGenome Atlas, a database predicting the effects of every possible single nucleotide variant in the human genome — all 9 billion, according to the company — and designed to require no coding skills.
With NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Google said it developed MAPL-EMIT, a deep learning model for tracking methane leaks from space that detects 50% more emissions than human experts and has uncovered over 23,000 previously unmapped plumes, including 24 of the world's 25 largest-emitting landfills. The data is available on Google Earth Engine, the company said.
Google also said Project Suncatcher will launch a first test satellite with Planet to evaluate how Google TPUs perform in space, citing up to eight times more solar power available in low-Earth orbit. Separately, researchers at Google, HHMI Janelia and Cambridge University built what Google called the first complete brain map of an adult male fruit fly, charting over 166,000 neurons and nearly 12,000 cell types.
Products and other news
Google said the Googlebook laptop, built on Android and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, is available for pre-order, with on-device features it named Magic Pointer and Rambler smart voice dictation.
The Gemini app is now on Windows, opened with the Alt + Space shortcut, according to Google. The company also announced WeatherNext 3, which it said adds real-time satellite data, hourly refreshes and higher resolution and is integrated across Search, Gemini, Maps, Google Maps Platform and Cloud, plus a new DeepMind Institute for research on a world with AGI.
