At Vercel Ship in San Francisco on October 15, 2026, Vercel announced the general availability of Python backends alongside container support and a public beta for Vercel Daemons.
Python General Availability
Python on Vercel is now generally available, supporting frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, and Django running on standard CPython with PyPI dependencies. Vercel handles framework detection, builds, and scaling for developers.
According to Vercel, 150,000 teams currently run Python backends on the platform, including engineers at OpenAI, Polymarket, and Exa. Python SDKs allow applications to interact with Vercel products including Vercel Blob, Vercel Queues, Vercel Workflows, Vercel Sandbox, and the AI SDK for Python.
Container Support and Vercel Daemons
Vercel expanded container support in Vercel Functions to enable custom runtimes and system libraries. Containers deploy as Vercel Functions on Fluid compute, utilizing Active CPU pricing that excludes charges for idle time waiting on API responses, database queries, or LLM inferencing.
Vercel also introduced Vercel Daemons in Public Beta for continuously running background workers that pull work and stay active between jobs. Daemons maintain specified instance capacities in each region by restarting processes when they exit or crash.
