You can increase the security of your Microsoft account by requiring two steps to sign in. These steps are provided by Microsoft.
What it does
Two-step verification helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account. It uses your password and a contact method as two different forms of identity.
Before you start
Microsoft says you can start with an email address, a phone number, or any authenticator app.
Steps
Step 1: Sign in to your Microsoft account Security tab at account.microsoft.com/security.
Step 2: Select Manage how I sign in to show the ways to prove who you are.
Step 3: Under Additional security and Two-step verification choose Turn on or Turn off.
Step 4: Follow the instructions shown on the screen.
What the company says
Microsoft strongly recommends having three pieces of security info associated with your account, just in case you lose access to a contact method.
