The Digital Policy Office held the second technology forum under the AI+ Civil Service: Empowering Public Services Transformation through AI Tools Series on October 6. Themed Deepening Data and Information Insights to Transform Citizen Services, the event attracted over 600 representatives from nearly 100 government departments, public, and private organisations.
Acting Commissioner for Digital Policy Daniel Cheung stated in his opening address that the DPO prioritizes advancing AI+ Civil Service initiatives to implement Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan and the 2026 Policy Address.
Ongoing AI Projects and Governance
According to Cheung, an AI Efficacy Enhancement Team led by the Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration has facilitated and implemented an initial batch of 30 efficacy enhancement projects involving 13 departments. The DPO is also advancing the iAM Smart AI Assistant project and AI Agents pilot run within the government.
Cheung noted that while promoting AI applications, proper access management, information security, and human oversight must be ensured to maintain safe and controllable benefits.
