Galaxia and Maritime Launch Services announced a partnership on October 7, 2026, to develop an Autonomous Flight Safety System for Spaceport Nova Scotia. The collaboration aims to advance Canada's sovereign space-launch capabilities by automating vehicle safety processes.

Onboard Flight Safety Technology

Galaxia will develop and supply the Autonomous Flight Safety System (AFSS) to support launch operations from Spaceport Nova Scotia. The AFSS is designed to process launch vehicle sensor data onboard and determine whether termination criteria have been met.

According to the companies, this onboard processing reduces reliance on traditional ground-based range safety processes. The system features redundant radiation-hardened controllers, deterministic real-time signal processing, multi-sensor data fusion for vehicle health monitoring, and a space-grade independent power system.

Funding and Industry Support

The development program is being funded by Maritime Launch Services with support through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). Both companies are headquartered in Atlantic Canada.

Melissa Quinn, Vice President of Spaceport Operations at Maritime Launch Services, said the partnership draws on regional engineering talent to strengthen the domestic supply chain. Lucas Rowlands, Vice President of Mission Operations at Galaxia, stated that the project helps deliver resilient and sovereign systems for Canadian space access.
