On October 22, 2026, CompTIA announced plans to develop the AgentOps+ certification to define and validate workforce skills for managing AI agents in enterprise operations.

Defining the Standard

CompTIA announced the planned AgentOps+ credential on October 22, 2026, aiming to establish a vendor-neutral standard for professionals who deploy, secure, monitor, and govern AI agents. The certification addresses an emerging discipline spanning artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and IT operations.

"The focus has been on what AI agents can do, but the more urgent question is who will secure, govern and be accountable for them," said Carl Bowman, senior vice president of exam services at CompTIA. Bowman noted that organizations need professionals who can manage agents securely and responsibly as they gain access to enterprise data and workflows.

Market Context and Roadmap

CompTIA cited a KPMG first-quarter 2026 survey showing that more than half of organizations are actively deploying AI agents. Additionally, Deloitte found that only 21 percent of surveyed companies maintain a mature governance model for autonomous agents.

The planned certification is designed around durable operational principles rather than individual provider products. It is intended for professionals in DevOps, cloud operations, platform engineering, systems administration, and cybersecurity. CompTIA expects to release AgentOps+ and related learning products in Q2 2027.
