Amazon Web Services announced support for time series collections on the next generation of Amazon OpenSearch Serverless on October 28, 2026. The launch allows users to ingest, store, and analyze metrics, logs, traces, and event data without provisioning or managing clusters.
Ingestion and tiered storage
AWS stated that time series collections automatically absorb ingestion spikes, keep recent records fast to query, and allow users to search months or years of historical data within a single collection.
The feature introduces a lower-cost warm storage tier alongside the existing hot storage tier. According to AWS, customers can configure how long data remains in hot storage before transitioning to warm storage to retain infrequently accessed data without paying hot storage prices.
Workload scale and built-in analytics
AWS reported that time series collections support up to 100 TB of hot storage per collection. The company noted that this capacity is designed for high-volume observability workloads, including application monitoring, security analytics, and IoT telemetry.
The update also incorporates alerting and anomaly detection capabilities directly into the service. AWS said these built-in tools allow customers to detect unusual patterns and receive notifications about issues without deploying separate tooling.
Regional availability
AWS announced that time series collections are available immediately in all AWS Regions where OpenSearch Serverless is offered.
