Amazon Web Services said on October 1, 2026 that AWS Well-Architected Agent is available in preview, describing it as an AI-powered service and the next-generation evolution of AWS Trusted Advisor and the AWS Well-Architected Tool.
What the service does
According to AWS, the agent analyzes and optimizes AWS infrastructure across cost, security, performance and reliability, and delivers contextualized recommendations prioritized by business goals.
The company said it automatically correlates key metrics and application topology against Well-Architected best practices, and analyzes Terraform, CDK templates and CloudFormation templates to deliver what it calls automation-ready fixes where applicable.
AWS said teams can define their business goals and receive recommendations prioritized by impact and effort at the resource, application and architecture levels.
How recommendations are delivered
In an example given by AWS, a team prioritizing reliability can receive recommendations to add multi-AZ failover to a critical database, complete with an SSM runbook that automates the configuration change and a cross-pillar analysis showing how the change affects cost and performance before the team commits.
Where applicable, AWS said recommendations arrive with SSM runbooks, prescriptive CLI scripts and guided console walkthroughs.
The company also said the agent can conduct automated reviews of infrastructure-as-code templates including Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK templates, identifying gaps and returning the IaC code changes needed to align with Well-Architected best practices.
Availability
AWS said access to the agent and its recommendations is available in US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio) and US West (Oregon), while workloads can be onboarded from any AWS commercial Region.
The service is delivered by AWS Support and available to AWS customers with an AWS Support plan, the company said, pointing customers to its User Guide for more detail.
